Love the old P.A. ads. Probably the best vintage pipe tobacco ads ever made. The women in all the ads gaze lovingly and approvingly at their pipe men. Gotta have that Pipe Appeal! The 1940's and 1950's were a good time to be a pipe smoker, it seems.
I've always thought the Joy Smoke saying was a bit odd. Most likely a phrase common of the era, like the term "Slug-Nutty" used in an old Model tobacco ad from 1942. http://www.ebay.com/itm/1942-Ad-Model-Pipe-Smoking-United-States-Tobacco-WWII-Navy-Sailor-Wartime-Smoke-/370821151733?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5656a9bbf5
