Santa smokes a pipe #28 (1910)

Santa with a clay from 1910.

  1. Santa and sealing wax. Great stuff. I wonder why Santa so clearly seems to favor the clay pipe? It's a great pipe, but I think I would like to see more santas with corn cobs.

  2. Tradition, I suppose. In "A Visit From St. Nicholas" the right jolly old elf clenches a "stump of a pipe" which indicates a clay pipe; these typically started out long and as the ends shattered they got shorter and shorter.
